Citibank Singapore debuts biometric fingerprint payment system

Citibank Singapore is offering a new way for credit-card holders to make payments — using their fingerprints instead of credit cards.

Citibank this month began rolling out biometric payment systems in Singapore that allow Citibank Clear Platinum credit card holders to pay using their fingerprints. “It’s an investment for our future,” said Anand Cavale, vice president and business director of credit payment products at Citibank Singapore, noting this is the first time the bank has used a biometric payment system anywhere in the world.

Before putting the biometric system into operation, Citibank officials took a long hard look at whether the system was secure — and came away satisfied that it was, Cavale said. “We see this as the next step, which will enhance our already good fraud prevention systems,” he said.

With an affluent, tech-savvy population of 4.5 million, Singapore is among the most competitive for credit-card issuers, with many Singaporeans carrying three or four cards in their wallets. To encourage card holders to spend, banks regularly team up with partners to offer special discounts — say, 10 percent off dinner at a trendy restaurant — if customers use a certain credit card.

So much competition leaves banks looking for any edge they can find.

For its part, Citibank hopes the biometric technology makes payment more convenient for its card holders, eliminating the need for them to always carry credit cards while still allowing them to buy things. But don’t expect to see biometrics replace Citibank cards any time soon. “The technology will be used in conjunction with a credit card,” Cavale said.

Cavale believes biometric payments systems will shine in applications where a quick payment method is needed. “If you’re running to catch a train, and buying a cup of coffee and a newspaper, your time has more value,” he said.

So far, Citibank’s biometric payment systems are in place at only a handful of outlets in Singapore, including local coffee shops and the popular Zouk night club. But the bank has plans to quickly expand the number of such systems and the number of Citibank card holders able to use them.

“Our intention is to roll it out very quickly to other cards,” Cavale said.

Citibank chose to start the rollout of the biometric payment system with the Clear Platinum card because it is targeted at younger Singaporeans, ranging in age from 25 to 34. “We launched with this segment because the uptake is going to be very strong,” he said.

Getting signed up to use the biometric payment system, provided by Pay By Touch, of San Francisco, is relatively easy. Citibank has installed kiosks at several Singapore branches where card holders can register their fingerprints. To sign up, Citibank customers need to provide valid photo identification and a seven-digit numeric passcode used with the fingerprint to authenticate payment.

This is the first time that Citibank has tested a biometric payment system, and the bank’s operations in other countries, especially in Asia, are watching what happens in Singapore with interest, Cavale said. “Our plans include taking this technology around the region,” he said.

Biometric Cards

ID cards are due to be rolled out later this year. Existing data held by the Government, such as photographs, signatures and PPS numbers will be used to create the cards. The cards will have the capacity to carry fingerprints and eye scans. Oddly enough it is not intended as a National identity card. It seems that there is no legislation in place to introduce National identity cards.

The benefits of such a card are obvious but the downside is that every official record can be put on such a card from blood type to your leaving cert results. The type of cross-referencing that can be done with details such as can be put on a card such as this is what scares some people. It is easy to dismiss them as paranoid, if you have nothing to hide, why should you be afraid? The minority that will oppose these cards will make their points heard and they will carry some weight as well.

But what if we have a paranoid government?

L5 Remote renders the iPhone a universal remote with custom UI

There are a few apps and gadgets available currently that allow you to use your iPhone and iPod Touch as a universal remote control. But they all have some sort of hitch that restricts their use in a way that doesn't really make them universal. The L5 Remote, which is set to debut at CES 2010, aims to take the market by being truly universal. The $50 app/dongle bundle doesn't require a dock and even allows you to create a customized user interface. I'm sure we'll find out just how well the L5 Remote works in the coming days, but for now I think I'm comfortably saying I'd shell out $50 for this level of remote control functionality.

Vizio outs 3 mobile TVs you can fit in a backpack

Vizio is making an entrance in to the nascent mobile TV market, not with a cellphone application, but with 3 new mobile Razor LED TVs.

First off is the 10.2-inch VMB100 and 9-inch VMB090 mobile Razor LED TVs. Other than touchscreen size, both are pretty well identical in specifications. LCD panel resolution sits at 800 x 480 resolution with a 350 nit brightness and both have a tuner not only capable of receiving ATSC and NTSC signals, but also ATSC-MH signals. Ports include one HDMI 1.4, composite video, stereo audio, USB 2.0 and a headphone jack. Both mobile TVs are shipping later this year for $229.99 and $199.99, respectively.

The smaller 7-inch VMB070 still fits 800 x 480 pixels on its LCD display although the brightness is 250 nits. Unfortunately, it appears the VMB070 doesn't have the ability to receive ATSC-MH signals, though it does have an ATSC/NTSC tuner. Ports include auxiliary audio and video inputs and a headphone jack. Also shipping later this year, the Vizio VMB070 Razor mobile LED TV will cost $149.99.

Oppo BDP-80 Blu-ray player only $289

Oppo isn't known for low-cost Blu-ray players, but today the company released its lowest-cost Blu-ray player yet in the BDP-80. Successor to the higher-end BDP-83, the new Oppo player eliminates the secondary video processor, 24p DVD upscaling, IR and RS-232 networking ports.

However, for $289 the Oppo BDP-80 does offer BD-Live support with an Ethernet jack, 1 GB of built-in memory, 24p Blu-ray playback, an HDMI 1.3 output, AVCHD H.264-compressed video compatibility, and more.

Sharp intros quad-pixel LED TVs, pair of Netflix streaming Blu-ray players, and a HTiB

I'm still flipping through CES 2010 home theater coverage on the web and something has really caught my eye tonight. Sharp, one of the world's bigger names in HDTV, didn't spend CES pushing 3D technologies like most of its competitors. Instead Sharp is introducing something called quad-pixel technology, or the addition of yellow to the usual red, green and blue color scheme. Sharp says that the color addition will allow for (surprise, surprise) better rendering of yellow-colored objects.

The new quad-pixel technology will be integrated into all of Sharp's new HDTV lines which include the main LE920, LE820 and LE810 series'. The LE920 series includes a 68-inch (LC-68LE920UN), 60-inch (LC-60LE920UN) and 52-inch (LC-52LE920UN) model. All are 1.6-inch thick 1080p panels with Sharp's UltraBrilliant edge-lit backlighting and feature 240 Hz refresh, a USB media player, Ethernet port, 4 HDMI ports with quick-switching InstaPort technology, RS-232C inputs, and a PC input. The Ethernet jack can be used for Netflix movies, web-based content, and Sharp tech support. Expected to ship in May, the LE920 series has yet to be priced.

The LE820 and LE810 series' include 120 Hz refresh, a 1.6-inch thick form factor and most of the connectivity options found with the LE920 models. Both series' have the same-sized models and the prices are attached.: 60-inch LC-60LE820UN will ship for a suggested price of $3,999.00, while the 60-inch LC-60LE810UN will be priced at $3,499.00. The 52-inch LC-52LE820UN and LC-52LE810UN will be priced at $2,999.00 and $2,599.00, respectively. The 46-inch LC-46LE820UN and the 46-inch LC-46LE810UN will be priced at $2,399.00 and $2,099.00, respectively, while the 40-inch LC-40LE820UN and LC-40LE810UN will be priced at $2,199.00 and $1,799.00, respectively. Both the LE820 and LE810 series models will be available in March.

Sharp also announced the standalone 60-inch LC-60E88UN that isn't backlit but includes Sharp's OPC technology that detects ambient lighting and adjusts the panel's brightness accordingly. The set features 240 Hz refresh, UV2A technology, and 10-bit processing, all targeted at the football fan. According to Sharp, this 60-inch set is built for the Super Bowl and will be shipped in February for an unannounced price.

Finally, the 32-inch LC-32LS510UT and 22-inch LC-22LS510UT round out Sharp's 2010 HDTV offering. Both will have 1080p resolution, a USB jack and a headphone jack. A smaller 19-inch LC-19LS410UT will have the same features but only 720p resolution. All models also feature edge-lit backlighting. The 32-inch model will ship in June, while the 22- and 19-inch models will ship in May. No prices have been announced.

Sharp has announced a pair of Blu-ray players and a 5.1-channel home theater in a box for 2010, as well.

The BD-HP70U and BD-HP24U include Netflix steaming, an Ethernet port, BD-Live, Deep Color HDMI, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio and more. The BD-HP70U also includes a second USB port for attaching a Wi-Fi dongle for connecting to a home wireless network, and an anti-vibration feature that reduces noise and improves picture quality. The BD-HP70U ships in the 2nd quarter for $499.99, while the BD-HP24U will ship in 1st quarter for $279.99.

The 5.1-channel BD-MPC41 supports Blu-ray playback, Netflix movie streaming, iPod and FM radio audio via its included Ethernet port. Three speakers are included in the sound bar which supports Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio codecs and pumps out 1020 Watts of power. Shipping in the 2nd quarter, the BD-MPC41 will cost $749.99.

46-inch BeoVision 200 Hz LED HDTV coming in April

High-end HDTV maker Bang & Olufsen has announced the BeoVision 10-46, basically a 46-inch version of its 40-inch BeoVision 10. With edge-lit LED backlighting, the BeoVision 10-46 features a 200 Hz refresh rate and a brushed aluminum frame. Look for it to hit Europe in April likely priced between $10, 000 and $20, 000.

Apple taking orders for new 24-inch LED Cinema Display

Apple didn’t just announce the new unibody MacBook and MacBook Pro families at its notebook-centric event last month, the company also added a 24-inch LED monitor to its Cinema Display offerings and has just started taking orders for it via the online Apple Store.

The 24-inch glossy, widescreen display features a 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution and uses LED-backlit technology to provide instant full-screen brightness and improved power efficiency. Many will despise the replacement of matte for glossy, surely, but others will welcome the new built-in iSight camera, microphone and stereo speakers.

Touted specifically for its redesigned MacBook offerings, the new LED Cinema Display also features an integrated MagSafe charger that allows users to plug in and power their Apple notebooks, plus a three-port USB 2.0 hub and an aluminum and glass enclosure. The new monitor from Apple will set you back $899 and shipments should begin sometime later this month.

LG W2286L 22-inch LED LCD monitor comes to Korea

LG Electronics has announced its 22-inch LED LCD monitor for the South Korean market. The LED backlighting enables the monitor to be anorexic, thickness measuring at just 20mm. It also boasts some advantages that a regular LCD cannot achieve – like power reduction by 40 percent, 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Other features include Auto Bright that adjusts the monitor brightness according to the surroundings, Time Control that lits up all the buttons to remind you there’s a ‘break time’, Cinema Mode, 2 HDMI and 1 DVI connector. LG will sell this monitor for 4,10,000 Won or around $324.

Fujitsu LifeBook T2010 Notebook PC - Review

Core 2 Duo U7600 Processor 1.2GHZ, 1GB RAM

One of the last truly Japanese brands left on the market, Fujitsu has produced this latest entry into the tablet world. Tablets have come a long way since their initial introduction, with Windows Vista
in particular making tablet use a joy.

Design of the Fujitsu LifeBook T2010 Laptop

The T2010 is quite rugged and business-like, with a rotating glossy monitor that will happily flip left or right. When the monitor is turned around and laid down flush against the keyboard (so the screen is facing outward), the display flips to a portrait orientation and switches from a 1,280 x 800 to 800 x 1,280 screen--although this can be changed in software. A fingerprint scanner is situated on the bottom left of the screen, while five buttons (page up, page down, screen rotate, fn, alt, all of which act as buttons for a security pin as well) and a power button are positioned on the right.

Apart from the obvious pen (which is stored in the bottom right), navigation is performed via thumbstick which is also vastly annoying. It displays a propensity to move the cursor after you've lifted your hand off it and is considerably less accurate compared to a trackpad. The latter was removed so the battery can be stuck at the front of the machine rather than the rear. The left and right mouse buttons are a pain to push, quite likely due to being sloped upward and being the same moulded piece of plastic. In an uncommon but welcome addition, a middle mouse button is included.

A tiny mono speaker is situated on the bottom right, meaning the already weedy audio disappears whenever you touch the keyboard, muffling the sound.

Features of the Fujitsu LifeBook T2010 Laptop
While Fujitsu gets points for the combined SD/Memory Stick reader and its dedication to security through Smart Card, BIOS/hard drive lock, fingerprint and Lifebook lock, it loses out on the mono speaker and lack of optical-drive. The latter features are present in Sony's smaller, yet admittedly more consumer focused, VGN-TZ17GN. An older but corporate-friendly PCMCIA Type II slot is present rather than the newer ExpressCard standard, with the smart card slot situated below that.

An anemic two USB ports are offered and a VGA port is hidden behind a panel that will likely shear free after a few years of use. A Firewire port and headphone/microphone port are supplied--and that's it as far as connectivity is concerned.

Using the notebook as a tablet is a pretty standard affair and is pleasing enough. However despite our best efforts we couldn't find an option to increase the sensitivity of the screen, as it felt that sometimes we had to press a little hard to get the response we wanted.

Performance And Battery Life of the Fujitsu LifeBook T2010 Laptop

This is certainly a business laptop, with the Intel GMA X3100 making sure that games are a no-no, and the low 3DMark06 score of 435 and average PCMark05 score of 2835 attesting to this.

Not having an optical drive made the battery test a little more difficult than usual as we play back a DVD with all power-saving features turned off, and screen brightness and performance set to maximum. To overcome this we transferred an image of the DVD to the hard drive and played off that, with the notebook lasting 2 hours 12 minutes before succumbing to blackness.

The LifeBook T2010 qualifies as a middle-of-the-road offering from Fujitsu. It'll do the job, but you'll want to poke around at its competitors like the updated version of Toshiba's Portege M400 before deciding first.

After-Sales Service And Support for the Fujitsu LifeBook T2010 Laptop
Fujitsu LifeBook has a one-year international warranty with second-year and third-year local warranty. At Fujitsu's support Web site, LifeBook owners can register their warranty online as well as download the latest drivers. For simple problems, the company offers a helpline and email address for troubleshooting. Should the unit require further diagnosis or repair, the customer will have to send the unit to any service center worldwide during the first year. Subsequently, Fujitsu will honor the notebook's warranty only for the subsequent two years at the original country of purchase. For users who use their laptops for time-critical work with no margin for downtime, it must be noted that most Fujitsu service centers in Asia Pacific operate only during office hours. There is no option to upgrade the warranty terms.

XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB XXX Edition Video Card

The GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB Is Ready!

NVIDIA is launching another video card based off the ever popular G92 GPU this morning! The GeForce 8800 GTS 512 MB is the latest video card in the NVIDIA line-up. The GeForce 8800 GTS 512 MB delivers impressive new levels of performance in the $299-$349 price range and brings new features such as PCI Express 2.0 support and second-generation NVIDIA PureVideo HD with full H.264 video offload to the enthusiast segment. The original GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB and GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB video card configurations had 96 stream processors. The new 512MB configuration has 128 stream processors, support for PCI Express 2.0, dual-link HDCP support, and the second-generation PureVideo HD engine thanks to the updated core. So, in a sense, the new GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB boards should be better across the board thanks to the updated GPU. Let's take a look at the XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB XXX Edition graphics card!

The original BFG Tech GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB OC video card is pictured above the new XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB XXX Edition graphics card. While the cards are the same length they are obviously very different. The clock frequiences on the reference 512MB cards are 650MHz/1940MHz with a sharder clock of 1625MHz, but XFX overclocked their XXX edition up to 678MHz on the core, 1972MHz on the memory and 1700MHz for the shader clock for even more performance. The XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB Alpha Dog XXX Edition that Legit Reviews is looking at today comes with the part number PV-T88G-YDD4.

The reference GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB graphics card has a board power draw of less than 150W, so just a single 6-pin PCI Express power connector is present on the card. The GeForce 8800 GTS 512 MB graphics cards require a minimum 400W or greater system power supply (with 12 V current rating of 26A) for single GPU operation. NVIDIA has not stated how big of a power supply would be needed for SLI, but if the board uses less than 150W adding another card would pit the power supply requirements at a minimum of 550W for a pair of cards. From this angle, you can also see that the front of the video card isn't smooth, which is a bit different than before.

There is a single SLI connector on all of the 8800 GTS 512MB cards, which makes it possbile to do SLI. It should be noted that when NVIDIA does 3-way or 4-way SLI down the road with upcoming NVIDIA 780i chipsets that the GeForce 8800 GT and GeForce 8800 GTS cards will not be supported since it has just one connection.

The pair of dual-link DVI connections with a maximum resolution of up to 2560 x 1600 and the TV output connector on the XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB Alpha Dog are what one would expect on any GeForce 8800 GTS. The TV output is HDTV ready and the card does come with the proper cables to use the TV output as you will later see when we cover the bundle.

The back of the XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB Alpha Dog XXX Edition Graphics Card shows off the green PCB, which means that our sample is made by NVIDIA. Eventually XFX will have their own black PCB, but the initial cards will feature this snappy NVIDIA green PCB. Since there are no heat sinks or covers on the back there isn't too much to talk about! Let's take a look at the bundle before we move on to testing.

Best Performance Desktop PCs

The past couple of months have had some major changes in the performance market. Processors have come out that feature six cores on a single chip and NVIDIA has released their first Direct X 11 graphics cards. Even with these releases, many companies are sticking with previous designs and hardware to keep costs down as consumers are focused much more on value than before.

The majority of people looking for a high performance desktop computer are typically using it for PC gaming. There are people looking to use them for tasks like desktop video and the such, but most manufacturers still market them as game machines. With the current economy though, people are not as eager to spend $5000 for such a system as they did in the past. As a result, I've changed the focus of my best performance desktop list to focus more on performance at a value price and breaking out the list based on various features and functions as well as price.

LCD Monitors and Color Gamuts

What is Color Gamut?

Color gamut refers to the various levels of colors that can potentially be displayed by a device. There are actually two types of color gamuts, additive and subtractive. Additive refers to color that is generate by mixing together colored light to generate a final color. This is the style used by computers, televisions and other devices. It is more often referred to as RGB based on the red, green and blue colors used to generate the colors. Subtractive color is that used by mixing together dyes that prevent reflection of light that then produce a color. This is the style used for all printed media such as photos, magazines and books. It is also generally referred to as CMYK based on the cyan, magenta, yellow and black colors used.

Since we are talking about LCD monitors in this article, we will be looking at the RGB color gamuts and how various monitors are rated for their color. The problem is that there are a variety of different color gamuts that a screen can be rated by.
sRGB, AdobeRGB and NTSC

In order to quantify how much color a device can handle, it uses one of the standardized color gamuts that define a particular range of color. The most common of the RGB based color gamuts is sRGB. This is the typical color gamut used for all computer displays, TVs, cameras, video recorders and other consumer electronics. It is one of the oldest and therefore narrowest of the color gamuts that is used in reference for computer and consumer electronics.

AdobeRGB was developed by Adobe as a color gamut to provide a wider range of colors than sRGB. They developed this to be used with their various graphics programs including Photoshop as a means to give professionals a greater level of color when they work on graphics and photos before converting for print. CMYK has a much greater color range compared to RGB gamuts, thus the wider AdobeRGB gamut gives a better translation of colors to print than sRGB.

NTSC was the color space developed for the widest range of colors that can be represented to the human eye. Many may think that this has to do with the television standard group that it is named after, but it is not. Most real world devices to date do not have the ability to actually reach this level of color in a display.

So, to quantify the various color gamuts in terms of their relative range of color of narrowest to widest would be: sRGB < AdobeRGB < NTSC. In general, displays are generally referred to compared to the NTSC color standard unless they state a different standard.
What is the Typical Color Gamut of a Display?

Monitors are generally rated on their color by the percentage of colors out of a color gamut that are possible. Thus, a monitor that is rated at 100% NTSC can display all of the colors within the NTSC color gamut. A screen with a 50% NTSC color gamut can only represent half of those colors.

The average computer monitor will display around 70 to 75% of the NTSC color gamut. This is fine for most people as they are used to the color they have seen over the years from television and video sources. (72% of NTSC is roughly equivalent to 100% of the sRGB color gamut.) The CRTs used in most televisions and color monitors also produced roughly a 70% color gamut.

Those that are looking to use a display for graphical work for either a hobby or profession will probably want something that has a greater range of color. This is where many of the newer high color or wide gamut displays have come into play. In order for a display to be listed as a wide gamut, it generally needs to produce at least a 92% NTSC color gamut.

An LCD monitor's backlight is the key factor in determining its overall color gamut. The most common backlight used in an LCD is a CCFL (Cold-Cathode Fluorescent Light). These can generally produce around the 75% NTSC color gamut. Improved CCFL lights can be used to generate roughly 100% NTSC. Newer white LED backlighting has been able to actually generate greater than 100% NTSC color gamuts.
Summary

If an LCD monitor's color is an important feature for your computer, it is important to find out how much color it can actually represent. Manufacturer specs that list the number of colors are generally not useful and typically inaccurate when it comes to what they actually display versus what they theoretically can display. Because of this, consumers should really learn what the monitors color gamut is. This will give consumers a much better representation of what the monitor is capable in terms of color. Be sure to know what the percentage is as well as the color gamut that percentage is based off of.

Here is a quick list of the common ranges for different levels of displays:
Average LCD: 70 to 75% of NTSC
Professional non-Wide Gamut LCD: 80 to 90% of NTSC
Wide Gamut CCFL LCD: 92 to 100% of NTSC
Wide Gamut LED LCD: 100%+ of NTSC

Time To Leave Disk Cleaner

Time To Leave have some advanced features. For example, it can monitor your hard drive(s) for free space. Once free space reach the lowest limit, some actions can be done. This is not just a duplicate of Windows internal function, but also have the advanced option to kill files, that you can Sacrifice to keep free space. Sacrificing means - you don't want to delete some files, but would, if space would become too low. TTL can do this for you - you can just mark file or folder as "sacrificed", after you downloaded it, and don't worry about the disk space it consumes - if it is still here, you have no problems with free space.
You can erase files, move them to recycle bin, erase securely or compress to save more space. Archives may be password protected.

Opera Mini 4.2 vs UCWEB 6.3

Opera Mini 4.2

Bookmarks/Favorites work just alright on Opera Mini 4.2, but there's no option to use folders on bookmarks. 4 points

Closed format preview to open pdf/doc and other fies is missing. Only txt files can be opened. 2 points

Cookie/password manager fair enough. Cookies locally stored and can be deleted, but no password manager. 4 points

Download/upload works. All kinds of files can be downloaded, uploaded and attached into emails just alright. 5 points

Find in page is well implemented and easy to use. 5 points

In-line editing possible only on url field. I like the possibility to open the url also in phone's editor. It makes it easy to copy url and use it elsewhere on the phone, in case it's needed. 2 points

Nationalization deserves special thanks on Opera Mini. Opera products and services are available in many different languages and translations are well done. 5 points

Phone number recognition is highly usable and the length of phone number recognized can be changed on advanced about:opera settings. 5 points

Possibility to add searches is easy, just as is to use them. Almost any search field seen on Web sites can saved from menu opened on phone's editor. Then saved favorite searches can be opened directly from start page or via #9 shortcut. 5 points

Render technique is excellent on Opera Mini, or that's what it is for my taste. Opera Mini offers chance to quickly switch between 'Desktop/Mobile View', and here 'mobile view' means specially rendered one column content on almost any Web site. In this, I personally like Opera Mini 4.2, because it honestly introduces itself as mobile browser only. The point here is to "force" users to demand better mobile contents from Web sites they use. Something like year ago number of Web sites started to push very limited content for users of mobile browsers. Opera mini users started to demanded that there should be an option to make Opera Mini present itself as full desktop browser. However, Opera Mini team decided to stand behind their principles by saying that people should direct their complaints to Web site designers and service providers. People should demand well designed and mobile friendly Web sites instead. Nowadays this principle seems to start paying off. Number of Web sites have started to offer quite nicely done mobile content or they give an option to switch to full content pages. 5 points

RTSP video support started to work since version 4.2, and it works just fine. Videos are opened into built-in browser & video player, and once watcing is finished, user gets back to Opera Mini. I like this, because it's nice to watch videos using full display. 3 points

Save page feature works fine and is easy to use. 5 points

Select copy and paste text missing almost completely. Only contents opened on forms can copied but no way to select and copy text on pages. 2 points

Server backup is what makes Opera Mini 4.2 as unique. Opera Link is a brilliant idea to synchronize bookmark, feeds, notices between Opera Mini and desktop Opera, Morevoer, Opera Link can be accessed also on any other browser. UCWEB has also started to offer something similar, but currently their service is available only in Chinese. 5 points

Settings/Preferences are well covered but for some srange reason part of them are hidden behind local about:opera address. 4 points

Start page on Opera Mini 4.2 is almost perfect. Saved pages section would have been better above page history, but otherwise the start page is functional and easy to use. I like the idea to have just few speed dials on start page, and then the rest of the bookmarks elsewhere, but this is of course a matter of taste. 4 points.

Tabs/Windows missing. 1 point

Average for Opera Mini 4.2: 3.9 points

UCWEB 6.3

Bookmarks/Favorites are easy to save and access on UCWEB 6.3, and there's an option to use folders as well. 5 points

Closed format preview makes UCWEB 6.3 as unique, and I really wish to see this available also on any J2ME browser. It just makes things so much easier when you can preview almost any type of documents on your J2ME prowser. There are a lot of contents available in pdf, word doc, or in some other format, that can be useful especially for mobile users. Some train and buss companies offer timetables only in pdf, or user would like to read Powerpoint or Open Office presentations on her/his way to conference. 5 points

Cookie/password manager seems to be implemented just alright. Cookies saved and can be cleared, but no password manager. 4 points

Download/upload supposedly works just fine. I haven't actually tried to upload anything, but the upload feature seems to be there. 4 points

Find in page feature is not what I expect. Words only on links can be searched and theres no option to 'find next'. Instead you have to open 'Menu>Find' again and again. 2 points

In-line editing missing? 1 points

Nationalization fare enough since user interface is available at least in two languages, Chinese and English. 2 points

Phone number recognition available but no settings for it. 4 points

Possibility to add searches missing. 1 point

Render technique is awful on UCWEB 6.3. No desktop view available and the layout is simple not user friendly. For example reading forum posts is painful because colors and separators on original layout are missing. It's very difficult to distinguish separate posts because of this. 2 points.

RTSP video support works alright, just as it does on Opera Mini. 3 points

Save page missing? 1 points

Select copy and paste text available for links on pages, current screen or whole page. I like the context menu options to copy the link text or url. Moreover, it's excellent that all copied contents are stored into clipboard. Although there's no similar selection tool as on BOLT 1.5, the clipboard and copy link features make UCWEB 6.3 pretty handy. 4 points.

Server backup is available only in Chinese. I didn't try to use it so, I'm rally not sure how it works. 3 points

Settings/Preferences are there alright, but I could not find any help or manual explaining all those settings available on UCWB 6.3. 3 points

Start page I just did not like at all. Why there has to be all those preselected bookmarks, which can not be removed or edited? There's some odd tab like toolbar for switching between "mains" and bookmarks, but why not an option to have some other tabs as well? 3 points

Tabs/Windows is actually very useful feature also on J2ME browsers, just as it is on desktop rowsers. Previously I thought it's not a big deal, but once I had a chance to use it on UCWEB and on Opera Mini 5 beta, I immediately fell in love into tabbed browsing feature. Combined with well working select/copy/past feature, this offers much more convenient way to add quotes, links and URLs into blog posts and on forum replies. 4 points

Average for UCWEB 6.3: 3.0 points

Conclusion

It looks like Opera Mini 4.2 is still the best available J2ME browser. Five points given for nationalization is of course a matter of taste, but especially in Europe it's important to get UI in your own language. That's where Opera Mini really shines. Moreover, Render technique is also very important because of overall usability. A nice desktop view is really not the best option on number of Web pages. For example forum posts are much more convenient to read using Opera Mini's mobile view than than it is on desktop view. One may think UCWEB would be good then, but render technique used on UCWEB is just so padly implemented that it's really a pain to read pages like Web forums.

Nefanasa Yahoo Messenger 10 Mobile

Some applications such as Yahoo Messenger YMTiny, YMess, and Yamee reportedly could not be used. This is because IM protocols used to change.

Right now I just found 4 applications Yahoo Messenger for mobile phones that connect directly to Yahoo server where everything is made in Indonesia.

Google Latitude

Google Latitude is a location-aware mobile app developed by Google. Latitude allows a mobile phone user to allow certain people to track their location. Via their own iGoogle accounts, the user's cell phone location is mapped on Google Maps. The user can control the accuracy and details of what each of the other users can see — an exact location can be allowed, or it can be limited to identifying the city only. For privacy, it can also be turned off by the user, or a location can be manually entered. Users have to explicitly opt in to Latitude, and may only see the location of friends who have decided to share their location.[1]

Google's 2005 acquisition, Dodgeball, offered similar facility to users by way of SMS. With Google Latitude, the service has expanded to PCs (it uses IP geolocation as well as user driven input) and automated location detection on mobile phones using Cell-ID, Cellular Positioning, and GPS.

How to Blog Design Style Guide Ultimate guide to designing blogs

Introduction

When designing blogs I noticed there are a few different design elements that I have to take into account every time. I have broken these different design elements into nine different parts. The more attention you give to each part, the better your overall blog design will be.
1. Header
2. Content Area
3. Primary Navigation
4. Secondary Navigation
5. Headlines
6. Comments
7. Post’s Footer
